The Great Quilt and Coverlet Exhibit
Celebrating the County Bicentennial through its quilts and coverlets
Celebrate BCHS Centennial with our quilts and coverlets exhibit. The first exhibit done by the organization was of their quilt collection, so it seems only fitting to feature these exquisite items once again so many years later. Not only will you experience the beauty of these hand-crafted treasures, you will also learn about the families that created them and the stories they tell.
April 6 – June 3 : Quilts on display
June 8 – July 29 : Coverlets on display
Open Tuesday – Thursday, 10 am – 4 pm
FREE admission

One hundred years later…
The Bartholomew County Historical Society presented a large collection of quilts in October of 1926, during the first Downtown Merchants Fall Festival.
The quilts, more than sixty in number, were hung in the community room of the Union Trust Company (now Irwin Conference Center). They estimated a thousand people attended the three-day show.
This was the first exhibit sponsored by the historical society after its founding in 1921.
